Dr L. Bouke van der Meer is retired associate professor in Classical Archaeology. He has published books and articles (see academia.edu) on Etruscan archaeology and language, among others books on urns with mythological scenes from Volterra, bronze mirrors with epigraphic mythological scenes, the famous Bronze Liver of Piacenza (analysis of a polytheistic system), decorated stone sarcophagi from Etruria (c. 350-200 BC), the Liber linteus Zagrabiensis (the so-called Mummy Wrappings of Zagreb, a linen book with the longest Etruscan ritual text), and Etruscan rituals. He also did research in Ostia Antica (on the use of travertine and on the Domus Fulminata). His monograph Ostia speaks. Inscriptions, buildings and spaces in Rome’s main port appeared in 2012.

Bouke is foreign member of the Istituto di Studi Etruschi ed Italici, member of the International Scientific Committee for the Corpus Speculorum Etruscorum, of the editorial Committee of Bulletin Antieke Beschaving. Annual Papers on Mediterranean Archaeology, of Etruscan Studies, of the Academic Advisory Board of the Graduate Journal of Social Studies, of the Etruscan Foundation Advisory Board (USA) and of Monographs on Antiquity, Louvain: Peeters.

He is now preparing a study on the engraved scenes of more than two hundred pear-shaped bronze mirrors from Praeneste (c. 360-280 BC).
