Dennis Braekmans studied archaeology at the KU Leuven (Belgium) where he obtained a PhD in Archaeology (2011) on the archaeometrical evaluation of the Archaic (c. 750-546 BC) and Classical-Hellenistic (5th-2nd centuries BC) pottery from the region of Sagalassos (SW Turkey). Between March 2011 and April 2012 he was engaged in post-doctoral research at the KU Leuven, focusing on broader topics of ceramic provenancing including assemblages from Belgium, Italy, Tunisia and Turkey. Other research in which he was involved included the application of handheld XRF equipment (X-ray fluorescence) on archaeological objects.
Main research interests include the methodological development of interlocking various layers of information (archaeological, mineralogical and chemical analyses), the understanding of the nature and use of natural resources, the provenancing of material objects, the determination of exchange of products between settlements, and the study of the evolution of production sequences through time.
