Travel Grants for internal self-funded PhD candidates

From 1st Jan 2008 the Faculty Board has allotted a ‘travel and conference fund’ to the Graduate School of Archaeology. All internal self-funded PhD-candidates can apply for this grant to a maximum of €800 during the time of their contract. It is not possible to obtain the total sum for one trip: there is a maximum reimbursement of €400 per event.

Grants can be obtained for travel and lodging expenses made in the framework of attending conferences abroad to give a paper on your research or a related subject. For all other foreign stays related to your research (fieldwork, excavations, work visits etc.) expenses cannot be reimbursed by this grant. For the latter you can submit a reimbursement application to your supervisor (promotor).

Your supervisor has a research budget that should provide (some) reimbursement of expenses. Funded PhD-candidates are not eligible for the ‘travel and conference fund’ because their funding generally includes travel expenses.

How to obtain a grant

Submit your PhD-grant application form at least 6 weeks before the conference to:
Dr. Roswitha Manning
Telephone: 00 31 (0)71 527 2446
Einsteinweg 2 Room A215

If your application is awarded, you should submit your expenses (tickets and other receipts) via a Faculty reimbursement form. This has to be signed by the coordinator of the Graduate School before it can be submitted to financial administration.
